As
a result of over two hundred years of livestock breeding and experience
in satisfying the vastly different tastes and eating habits of customers
around the globe, Australia has become the largest red meat exporting
country in the world. Australian producers are export driven and thus
are sensitive to the varying requirements of overseas customers. All importing
countries' quarantine, hygiene and packaging regulations are rigorously
followed.
The unique flavour of Australian free-range
beef and lamb is a result of the clean environment in which they are
produced. Abundant sunlight and rainfall produce the lush, green grasslands
which are the grazing pastures for Australia's herds and flocks. Indeed,
it is because of the abundance of grasslands that the majority of Australian
cattle and sheep are grass fed, although some beasts are grain fed for
selected marketplaces and limited supplies are available.
Due to its size however, Australia's climatic
and geographic variations have enabled the natural breeding cycles to
differ across the continent. This means regular year-round supplies
of fresh chilled beef and lamb to be available irrespective of season.
In addition to the ever popular beef and lamb, Australia also produces
veal, carpet (milk-fed goat) and buffalo, however, these are all seasonal
products and their supply is limited. As long as the customer is aware
of this seasonality, supplies of these high quality products should
be available. Australia has led the world in meat
handling technology for many years and is constantly researching further
advancements. As a result, the importer of Australian meat has the advantage
of a sophisticated meat packaging, handling and transportation infrastructure.
Irrespective
of type, all Australian meat is subject to the most rigid quality control
and hygienic production process. All export abattoirs must be licensed
by the Australian Government and as such are subject to continuous stringent
inspection procedures by both AUS-MEAT (Authority for Uniform Specification
for Meat and Livestock), the Department of Primary Industries and, in
some cases, the importing country's own government representatives.
Delivery schedules to America, Asia, Europe and
the Middle East are around 24 hours for air freighted chilled vacuum packaged
product and between two to six weeks sea freight.
