Lactos was founded in 1955 and for the past 13 years has been a member
of the International Bongrain Group of France, but like all subsidiaries
of the group Lactos has remained autonomous and very much Tasmanian.
Tasmania is noted for its clean, green environment - crystal clear water,
stable climate and sound farming techniques, all of which have contributed
to Tasmania's abundance of natural bounty, producing the finest quality
milk in the world.
Lactos’dairy farmers’ herds produce 65 million litres of creamy rich
milk that has a reputation for its pollutionfree purity and quality.
This enables the cheesemakers to produce a fine superior range of traditional
and uniquely Tasmanian handmade specialty cheese - ranging from HERITAGE
and DOMAINE Camembert, Brie, Blue, Continental - Edam, Gouda, Swiss,
smear ripened and natural flavoured whipped and traditional cream cheese.
Tasmania is making significant contributions as an exporter of high
quality food and wine.
